Ink finished! Many more to be posted but I’m scanner-wary.
Drawing finished! About to send out. Still doing lettering for the site name. It reads strange right now because it’s all lines but will be more legible as it’s colored.
I’m actually almost finished with the full pencil drawing but I haven’t been posting as often as I’d like and I returned my tablet phone (which I’m a bit bummed about because doodling/sketching/painting/drawing on that thing was a dream and I miss being able to whip that thing out to draw whatever came to mind at the moment. But that thing is too much to carry as a communication device).
But here’s what’s going for the 5 Second Films shirt…which they thought might work better as a poster. I got swamped with applying for a job at Nickelodeon today but the drawing is 90% finished and will hopefully be presentable by tomorrow morning.
This is the final. Final. Finished. As much of a computer person as I’ve been weened to be this sort of process is still completely counterintuitive. It used to really cheese me off because there would be Korean kids in my digital illustration classes that would render whole alien worlds in photoshop and it would take them many tens of hours with hundreds of layers and I would be sucking my thumb and screaming that the pen tool was a pain in the ass. It is a pain in the ass. Boolean algebra and whatever the heck.
My line work is pretty good but half the trouble is always getting it to look good in photoshop. This time went better and quicker and I’ve almost totally got that stupid pen tool by the throat.
I was initially disappointed because the Sad Foot looks a little wonky and that bothered me. It still does from a personal critical eye but it soon after hit me that the foot on that billboard looks like shit, too. Not like shit per se but half of the appeal comes from the fact that it’s a wonky bi-polar foot with feet. I started to do it over again but with that in mind I think it’ll make the thing much more recognizable. We’ll see how it goes. This is a first shirt design so it’s a good experience in any case.
NOW I’m FURIOUSLY going back to the book I was working on. And some storyboards. AND some personal projects. AND figure drawing twice a week! I’m going to start using a pen brush for that and possibly conte crayon for the longer poses.
AAAAND. My Etsy store is not far behind. I’ve already made prints and am itching to get going.
