dibujos de geoff

This is a poster I did last week. The event is being put together on quite a short timeline by an extremely driven friend of mine but the timeline is short enough that I had to do this in a day flat. The actual event is show out in Slab City, California next to the Salton Sea. The Atlantic wrote of a slew of tent cities popping up around the US in the wake of the economic disaster of the last couple years which has put a bunch of folks “on the street” and pushed others who were doing alright to drop out of society altogether since the writing’s on the wall at this point that most of what we need won’t be there much longer.
This place is one of the original groups that live together off the grid. They’re next to military munitions testing area and not far from the beautiful slice of modern industrial cluster-fuck that’s Salton Sea. I grew up going between Palm Springs and Los Angeles and the desert really is the place to be. If I weren’t bent on building a career I’d happily go out there to live out my timeline and die with a smile on my face. And there must be something to the area because after the 60’s were over all those artists with a acid-soaked brains all seemed to find themselves out in the Mojave. Like that “Horse with No Name” song.
My buddy Mike James is a rural kid from Indiana but he caught a slice of desert essence the last time he was out there filming a video for the band Manhattan Murder Mystery and decided to set up an entire musical listing on a stage they have set out there in what he appropriately calls the last free place in the continental US. It’s a notion I share with the guy and it’s something that he wishes to share with a group who would be open to the experience.
